Easter, Vol. 5

Writer's picture: jordannswrightjordannswright

Easter arriving in March always takes me by surprise, but sure enough it's 2024 and it's Holy Week. This year's playlist is so full of the entire reason we as Christians celebrate the Easter holiday: Jesus, His love, and His sacrifice. These songs have truly eased my tired heart as I prepare for this holiday weekend and to give birth in a few short weeks, and I hope they bring you joy, peace, and hope as well.

Like always, each song has a verse or passage of Scripture to go along with it for you to get some extra insight. Note: All Scripture is from the New Living Translation of the Holy Bible.

Hymn Of Heaven by Bethel Music, Brian Johnson & Zahriya Zachary (written by B. Johnson, P. Wickham, B. Johnson, C. Davenport)

Featured on Bethel's 2021 live album Homecoming with vocals by worship leaders Brian Johnson and Zahriya Zachary, this is a powerful anthem of the hope we have through Christ's sacrifice of spending eternity in Heaven with Him. It's a wonderful reminder of our future as God's children that we don't have to fear death or darkness because He has overcome it all.

How I long to breathe the air of Heaven/Where pain is gone and mercy fills the streets/To look upon the One who bled to save me/And walk with Him for all eternity/There will be a day when all will bow before Him/There will be a day when death will be no more/Standing face to face with He who died and rose again/Holy, Holy is the Lord

Romans 14:9 Christ died and rose again for this very purpose - to be Lord both of the living and of the dead.

Our Jesus by Bethel Music & David Funk (written by A. Cook, B. Wohrle, D. Funk)

Featured on Bethel's 2022 album Simple with vocals by worship leader David Funk, this is a beautiful little song full of reminders of who Jesus truly is. It will never cease to amaze me how God the Son came to Earth to die for us so that we could be with Him always, He loves us so. The Son of God/The heart of heaven/Given to us/Oh hallelujah/And oh, how gracious is the God who came to us/How wonderful and righteous is His love, our Jesus/And oh, through the suffering and the hatred of the cross/He gathered every hope we thought was lost, our Jesus

I John 1:5 This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all.

Praises (Be Lifted Up) by Bethel Music & Josh Baldwin (written by J. Baldwin)

Featured on Bethel's 2016 live album Have It All with vocals by worship leader Josh Baldwin, this is one of my favorite songs to worship to not only at Easter, but year round. It's an honor to lift our Father's Name up in worship to praise and thank Him for everything He has done for us and will continue to do throughout our lives.

And I sing praises to Your name, praises to Your name/The name that's so much higher than all names/And all honor to Your name, honor to Your name/The name that's so much greater than all names/Be lifted up/And be lifted higher/Be lifted up/Be lifted higher

Psalm 63:4 I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer.

My Jesus, I Love Thee (Love Song) by Caleb and Kelsey (written by W. Featherstone, A. Gordon)

Featured on Caleb and Kelsey's 2020 album Glorious Day: Worship & Hymns, this is a beautiful modernized version of a traditional hymn perfect for the Easter season. Our praise and worship to the Lord are truly love songs to Him as we do our best to reflect back the intense, amazing love He has for His children. My Jesus, I love Thee, I know Thou art mine/For Thee, all the follies of sin I resign/My gracious Redeemer, my Savior art Thou/If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, 'tis now/This is our love song to You, love song to You/This is our love song to You, Jesus/This is our love song to You, love song to You/This is our love song to You, Jesus

John 14:2 There is more than enough room in my Father's home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?

Cornerstone by Hillsong Worship (written by J. Myrin, R. Morgan, E. Lijero)

Featured on Hillsong's 2012 album Cornerstone with vocals by worship leader David Ware, this song inspired by the classic hymn The Solid Rock never fails to touch my heart. Putting our faith in Christ as opposed to the things of the world will build in us a firm foundation that will withstand the fiercest storm. My hope is built on nothing less/Than Jesus' blood and righteousness/I dare not trust the sweetest frame/But wholly trust in Jesus name/My hope is built on nothing less/Than Jesus' blood and righteousness/I dare not trust the sweetest frame/But wholly trust in Jesus name/Christ alone, cornerstone/Weak made strong in the Savior's love/Through the storm, He is Lord/Lord of all

Mark 12:10 Didn't you ever read this in the Scriptures? "The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone."

Battle Belongs by Phil Wickham (written by B. Johnson, P. Wickham)

Featured on Wickham's 2020 album Hymn Of Heaven, this is another all-time favorite of mine that I know I've written about before. It is truly an anthem of triumph that God is the mightiest Warrior of all time, and no enemy of any size will ever stand a chance against Him.

When all I see is the battle, You see my victory/When all I see is the mountain, You see a mountain moved/And as I walk through the shadow, Your love surrounds me/There's nothing to fear now, for I am safe with You/So when I fight, I'll fight on my knees with my hands lifted high/Oh God, the battle belongs to You/And every fear I lay at Your feet, I’ll sing through the night/Oh God, the battle belongs to You

John 11:25-26 Jesus told her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this, Martha?"

God So Loved by We The Kingdom (written by E. Cash, S. Cash, F. Cash, M. Cash, A. Bergthold)

Released as a single in 2020, this is an absolute proclamation of joy and praise taken straight from John 3. God truly loved His creation so much that He was willing to make the biggest sacrifice in history to save it. Come all you weary, come all you thirsty/Come to the well that never runs dry/Drink of the water, come and thirst no more/Come all you sinners, come find His mercy/Come to the table, He will satisfy/Taste of His goodness, find what you’re looking for/For God so loved the world that He gave us/His one and only Son to save us/Whoever believes in Him will live forever

John 3:16 For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

If you're preparing to celebrate this weekend, I wish all of you a happy Easter. Happy listening, and see ya'll next week!
