Here we are at the seventh and (as of right now) final installment of our Guitar Hero series. As huge as these posts have been, I've enjoyed going through these soundtracks and checking out these songs with ya'll, whether I was previously familiar or listening with fresh ears.
Guitar Hero Live was released October 20th, 2015 in North America for PS3, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and iOS. Developed by FreeStyleGames and published by ActiVision, it was a rhythm and music based game that you could play with your newly designed, six-button guitar controller. A new feature, GHTV, was added for this installment as well, where players could download any DLC from compatible Guitar Hero games. Reception was fairly positive, but sales were really underwhelming, causing FreeStyleGames to be let go from future GH projects and GHTV mode being straight up shut down by ActiVision. Guitar Hero Live scored an average of 82 from MetaCritic and an average 7.9 out of 10 from IGN.
This game has a good amount of new music (for the time and to the series), but also has repeats from previous games which personally grinds my gears a little bit. You could also download compatible songs from previous game through the GHTV mode, which seems like it would've been pretty cool. It's a smaller primary soundtrack, just over forty songs, but still enjoyable.
Guitar Hero Live featured twelve levels on story mode, with set lists of between three and five songs played from the perspective of the lead guitarist of the level's "band". Like I've said before, I am absolutely not a guitarist, so I won't be ranking the songs based on how fun or iconic they are to play. I did not own this game, nor did I fully realize this game even existed, so this list is new for me and I'm excited and ready to listen through it with ya'll. Let's get started!
