AQUARIUS: There’s travel in your future when your tongue freezes to the back of a speeding bus. Fill that void in your pathetic life by playing Whack-A-Mole seventeen hours a day. -Weird Al Yankovic

The above song lyrics from Weird Al’s Your Horoscope for Today pretty much sums up my feelings about astrology. I’m a little fascinated by astrology purely because of the absolute devotion to those who practice it wholeheartedly. I am guilty of using the “I’m a Scorpio” excuse to pass off a few of my personality traits, but when you look at the people in your life who are certain star signs and their “predestined” personality traits, very rarely will you find someone who meets them all 100%. That being said, my opinion is that horoscopes are fun to read as long as you don’t take them too seriously, and because one of my anxiety calming techniques is making lists, it is fun to see who you know that fits a certain star sign and why it “makes sense” that they act certain ways that they do.

As I mentioned in my first post on this blog, I love making playlists. I thought it would be a fun little project over the next year to make playlists for the star signs, and whether you fully subscribe to astrology or not, I think you’ll end up discovering some interesting new music nonetheless. These playlists are going to be comprised of songs I found ascribed to the star signs from Pinterest or various websites, songs by famous people born under those signs, and favorite songs of people in my own personal life born under those signs. Without any further ado, here is my Audio Aesthetics Aquarius Playlist.

COPYCAT by Billie Eilish (written by B. O’Connell, F. O’Connell) I’m super into Billie Eilish right now, so I decided to do a search for the Zodiac Signs as Billie Eilish songs. The website Garage listed COPYCAT as their choice for Aquarius, which I found interesting and thought made a lot of sense. A defining characteristic of someone who is an Aquarius is that they are very independent and individualistic, so Eilish singing a song about inspiring copycats fits right in with that ideal. Don’t be cautious, don’t be kind/You committed, I’m your crime/Push my button anytime/You got your finger on the trigger but your trigger finger’s mine/Silver dollar, golden flame/Dirty water, poison rain/Perfect murder, take your aim/I don’t belong to anyone but everybody knows my name/By the way, you’ve been uninvited/’Cause all you say are all the same things I did/Copycat, tryna cop my manner/Watch your back when you can’t watch mine/Copycat, tryna cop my glamour/Why so sad, bunny, can’t have mine

Is This Love by Bob Marley & The Wailers (written by B. Marley) Bob Marley himself is an Aquarius, born February 6th, 1945. Marley was very well known for being a free spirit, fighting for causes he believed in, and a powerful creative spirit, all of which are defining Aquarius ideals. I was a little surprised when I searched Marley on Apple Music and this song came up first under his Most Played (I figured it would be No Woman, No Cry or Three Little Birds), but this is definitely a good one to listen to. I wanna love you/And treat you right/I wanna love you/Every day and every night/We’ll be together/With a roof right over our heads/We’ll share the shelter/Of my single bed/We’ll share the same room, yeah/Oh Jah provide the bread/Is this love, is this love, is this love/Is this love that I’m feelin’/Is this love, is this love, is this love/Is this love that I’m feelin’/I wanna know, wanna know, wanna know now/I got to know, got to know/Got to know now/I, I, I, I, I, I’m willing and able/So I throw my cards on your table

It’s Too Late by Carole King (written by C. Klein, T. Stern) Carole King is another famous Aquarian musician, born February 9th, 1942. King meets the Aquarian characteristics of being original, seeing through people, and being an adventurous creative type, all of which are very evident in her lyrics. This is another song that I was surprised showed as the artist’s top Most Played when searched on Apple Music, but it’s from the Tapestry album (arguably her best) and it’s still a great song that showcases her real talent. Stayed in bed all mornin’ just to pass the time/There’s something wrong here, there can be no denyin’/One of us is changing or maybe we’ve just stopped tryin’/And it’s too late baby, now it’s too late/Though we really did try to make it/Something inside has died and I can’t hide and I just can’t fake it/Oh no, no, no, no

That’s Just The Way We Roll by Jonas Brothers (written by Bleu, J. Jonas, K. Jonas, N. Jonas, W. McAuley) If you haven’t figured it out thus far, I LOVE the Jonas Brothers. Therefore, doing an Internet search for the Zodiac Signs as Jonas Brothers songs was a logical step in putting this playlist together. The Odyssey had just such a list compiled for me to reference, listing their choice for an Aquarian JoBros song as That’s Just The Way We Roll. This got me super excited because A) It’s one of my all time favorite JoBro songs and B) Like with Eilish’s Copycat, this song expresses free-spiritedness and the ability to be unapologetically yourself. I woke up on the roof with my brothers/There’s a whale in the pool with my mother/And my dad paints the house different colors/Where would we be if we couldn’t dream/And I know we get a little crazy/And I know we get a little loud/And I know we’re never gonna fake it/We are wild, we are free, we are more than you think/So call us freaks, but that’s just the way we roll

Colors of the Wind by Judy Kuhn (written by S. Schwartz) A quick Internet search of the Zodiac Signs as Disney Princesses did NOT disappoint as I discovered the website HerCampus had claimed the Aquarian princess was Pocahontas. Pocahontas shows key Aquarius traits like appearing closed off to keep her feelings from getting hurt, being progressive in her thinking and living, and believes that you should accept everyone for who they are and not just automatically hate someone because they’re different than you. Colors of the Wind is not only one of the best Disney songs ever (sung by one of my favorite Broadway actresses of all time, Judy Kuhn), but it’s still so applicable in all of the crap going on in the world today. I wish everyone in the world would spare just over three minutes of their life and really listen to the lyrics of this song. You think I’m an ignorant savage/And you’ve been so many places, I guess that must be so/But still I cannot see if the savage one is me/How can there be so much that you don’t know/You don’t know/You think you own whatever land you land on/The earth is just a dead thing you can claim/But I know every rock and tree and creature/Has a life, has a spirit, has a name/You think the only people who are people/Are the people who look and think like you/But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger/You’ll learn things you never knew you never knew/Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon/Or asked the grinning bobcat why he grinned/Can you sing with all the voices of the mountains/Can you paint with all the colors of the wind/Can you paint with all the colors of the wind

Velvet Elvis by Kacey Musgraves (written by K. Musgraves, L. Dick, N. Hemby) When I think of my favorite lyricists of all time, Kacey Musgraves is at the top of my list for sure. When I found a WeHeartIt article of the Zodiac Signs as Kacey Musgraves songs, I was a little surprised to see their pick was Velvet Elvis because it seems a little bit the opposite of the Aquarian idea of being progressive in their thinking. The more I thought about it, I realized it’s probably due more to the fact that she doesn’t care if anyone judges her for having this “outdated” thing in her life, she loves it and she’s going to show it off. All I ever wanted was something classic/The kind of love song that goes on ’til the end of time/All I ever wanted was a little magic/With a good laugh, jet black sparkle in his eye/You’re my Velvet Elvis, I ain’t never gonna let you down/Making everybody jealous when they step into my house/Soft to the touch, feels like love, knew it as soon as I felt it/You’re my Velvet Elvis, baby

Water Flow by Klyne (written by O. Dehzad) This was a new discovery of mine when I did a Pinterest search for Aquarius playlists to kind of get a foundation on how to start this playlist, and I loved it immediately. The title is admittedly a little on the nose, since Aquarius is represented by the Water Bearer (yet they’re an Air sign? Just one of many things I don’t understand but that’s okay), but this song is definitely a bop and a really chill song to just relax and listen to, plus you could put some really neat choreography with it and it’d be a great dance solo. How about we go and let this thing behind ourselves/We’ve bee through this, there’s no need to hide away again/We will go to the ocean, and we’ll find love on the other side/And we’ll take all our chances, just as long as we’re together, we can set sail to the night/Flow, water, flow, all our worries go/Flow, water, flow, they sink down low/Flow, water, flow/All our worries go/Flow, water, flow, they sink down low

Forgotten by LINKIN PARK (written by D. Farrell, Linkin Park, M. Wakefield) For this explanation, I’m going to let my husband John (the most important Aquarius in my life) talk about his personal favorite song in his own words: Hybrid Theory was an album that when it came out both my mom and I loved and would listen to all the time. There was something comforting in the tone of that album and its music that really resonated with me. I wasn’t a depressed kid and I didn’t have many emotional issues that would impact my day to day life (either my issues weren’t really bad or I was good at dealing with them, I’m not sure), but the heavier sound of the music was something I loved, as well as the (at the time) non-generic radio crap. It was unique and spawned a whole subgenre of music that many bands tried to emulate and that I loved. The mix of different sounds was just cool and fun to listen to, and at the end of the day if you don’t enjoy the music you’re listening to there’s no real point to listening to it. I would say that’s my favorite because I will always listen to it and sing along and love it, and because it really shaped my taste in music. That album was the first time I cared about lyrics and content and mix and all that. Linkin Park is one of my favorite bands and Hybrid Theory came out in and for my generation and really shaped me musically. I would also say that being a child of divorced parents, it was great to have an album that my mom and I both loved loved and could enjoy. So that was part of it as well.” There’s a place so dark you can’t see the end/Skies cock back and shock that which can’t defend/The rain that sends dripping acidic questions/Forcefully, the power of suggestion/Then with the eyes shut looking through the rust and rotten dust/A small spot of light floods the floor/And pours over the rusted world of pretend/And the eyes ease open and it’s dark again/From the top to the bottom/Bottom to the top, I stop/At the core I’ve forgotten/In the middle of my thoughts/Taken far from my safety/The picture’s there/The memory won’t escape me/But why should I care/In the memory, you’ll find me/Eyes burning up/The darkness holding me tightly/Until the sun rises up

Gold Angel by Minke (written by R. Andrew, L. Mason) This was another find that took me by surprise on how much I enjoyed it while doing Pinterest research. The beat of this song is very simple, but Minke’s vocal style is really chill and this would be another awesome song to match up with choreography. All dressed up, nowhere to go/TV’s on, no one’s home/Ring me up, I’m not there/Leave a message, show you care/Meal for two, eat for one/This place of worship has come undone/Shadow frame upon the wall/No photograph to look out for/I’ll be your gold angel if you want me/I’ll be your gold angel, baby you want me

Hello Again by Neil Diamond (written by A. Lindgren, N. Diamond) Not only is Neil Diamond a famous Aquarius himself (born January 24th, 1941), he’s a huge favorite of my entire family. I’ll let my dad Roger (another important Aquarius to me) explain why this was his top pick for favorite song: “I do really like classic rock bands like ZZ Top and Aerosmith and The Eagles, but none of their songs really hit me and make me stop and listen to them every single time like Neil Diamond’s Hello Again. Knowing how much that song means to your mom and hearing the lyrics are really special to me, and no matter what I’m doing, if that song comes on I stop and listen to it from start to finish every time.” Hello, again, hello/Just called to say hello/I couldn’t sleep at all tonight/And I know it’s late, but I couldn’t wait/Hello, my friend, hello/Just called to let you know/I think about you every night/When I’m here alone, and you’re there at home/Hello/Maybe it’s been crazy/And maybe I’m to blame/But I’d put my heart above my head/We’ve been through it all/You’ve loved me just the same/When you’re not htere, I just need to hear

Bad Liar by Selena Gomez (written by C. Frantz, D. Byrne, I. Kirkpatrick, J. Michaels, J. Tranter, S. Gomez, T. Weymouth) Usually while I’m doing my Pinterest research for these blogs, I’m thinking I’m not going to find many songs that I already know, so seeing that lots of other Aquarius playlists had Bad Liar on them was a pleasant surprise because it’s one of my favorite Selena Gomez songs. Gomez really dives into her crush in this song making normal Aquarius ideals like keeping a level head and acting unbothered go totally up in flames due to her feelings. I was walking down the street the other day tryna distract myself/But then I see your face, oh wait, that’s someone else/Oh, tryna play it coy, tryna make it disappear/But just like the battle of Troy, there’s nothing subtle here/In my room there’s a king size space, bigger than it used to be/If you want, you can rent that place, call me an amenity/Even if it’s in my dreams/Ooh, you’re taking up a fraction of my mind/Ooh, every time I watch you serpentine/Oh I’m tryin’, I’m tryin’, I’m tryin’, I’m tryin’, I’m tryin’/Oh tryin’, I’m tryin’, I’m tryin’, I’m tryin’/Not to think about you, no, no, no, no, not to think about you, no, no, no, no/Oh I’m tryin, I’m tryin’, I’m tryin’, I’m tryin’, I’m tryin’/Oh tryin’, I’m tryin’, I’m tryin’, I’m tryin’, I’m tryin’/Not to give in to you, no, no, no, no, not to give in to you/With my feelings on fire, guess I’m a bad liar

I Knew You Were Trouble. by Taylor Swift (written by T. Swift, M. Martin, K. Schuster) Definitely another all-time favorite lyricist is Taylor Swift for me. Sweety High had a list of the Zodiac Signs as Taylor Swift songs and chose my favorite from her Red album, I Knew You Were Trouble, for the Aquarius. This song is all about trusting your instincts and taking a chance on an unknowable relationship, both of which tend to be traits of Aquariuses. Once upon a time, a few mistakes ago/I was in your sights, you got me alone/You found me, you found me, you found me/I guess you didn’t care, and I guess I liked that/And when I fell hard, you took a step back/Without me, without me, without me/Now he’s long gone when he’s next to me/And I realize the blame is on me/’Cause I knew you were trouble when you walked in, so shame on me now/Flew me to places I’d never been ’til you put me down/Oh, I knew you were trouble when you walked in, so shame on me now/Flew me to places I’d never been, now I’m lying on the cold, hard ground/Oh, oh, trouble, trouble, trouble/Oh, oh, trouble, trouble, trouble

The Song Remembers When by Trisha Yearwood (written by H. Prestwood) This song was my mom Donna’s (also an Aquarius) pick for her favorite song for the following reasons: “Trisha Yearwood The Song Remembers When. Probably one of my all time favorites. Every time I hear it it brings memories from so many areas of my life, good and bad, happy and painful memories. Powerful words evoking so many feelings.” I was standin’ at the counter, I was waitin’ for the change/When I heard that old familiar music start/It was like a lighted match had been tossed into my soul/It was like a dam had broken in my heart/After takin’ every detour, gettin’ lost and losin’ track/So that even if I wanted, I could not find my way back/After drivin’ out the memory of the way things might’ve been/After I’d forgotten all about us, the song remembers when

Back Pocket by Vulfpeck (written by J. Stratton) This Pinterest find took a few plays to grow on me, but it’s pretty light and fun to listen to. This is another Aquarian example of being guarded to keep your feelings from getting hurt. I know that it’s taken me all this time to say, girl/I’m slow, so it’s taken me all this time to say, girl/Tip toe, and I want to acknowledge my mistake, girl/Uh oh, and I hope that you know it’s not too late/Put it in my pocket, put it in my pocket/In my back pocket, put it in my pocket/In my pocket, in my back pocket/Oh, oh, oh, and I’ll/Put it in my pocket, put it in my pocket/In my back pocket, put it in my pocket/In my pocket, in my back pocket/And I’ll read it when I’m alone

Requiem by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (written by W. Mozart, F. Sussmayr) The minute I realized during my research that Mozart was an Aquarius (born January 27th, 1756), I knew the piece I would feature for him would be his famous Requiem that he composed right before his death in 1791. During college, I was blessed and fortunate to get to perform this with our university choir at the end of my freshman year, and it has remained one of my favorite classical pieces all these years later. Mozart really was a true (albeit tortured) genius, and this composition gives me goosebumps. If you have an hour to just sit in a room with your eyes closed and be relaxed, I would recommend this entire piece start to finish for your listening pleasure. Requiem aeternam dona ets, Domine/Et lux perpetua luneta ets/Te decet hymnes, Deus, in Sion/Et tibi reddetur votum in Jerusalem/Exaudi orationem meam/Ad te omnis caro veniet/Requiem aeternam dona ets, Domine/Et lux perpetua luceat ets

Hopefully you found some new music to enjoy this week! Happy Aquarius Season, and we’ll see you next Monday!
