SCORPIO: Get ready for an unexpected trip when you fall screaming from an open window. Work a little bit harder on improving your low self-esteem, you stupid freak. -Weird Al Yankovic
It's finally here - Scorpio's time to shine. As a Scorpio myself, I've been looking forward to this post all year. We water signs have a reputation for being one of the more intense astrological signs: determined, brave, loyal, honest, and ambitious while occasionally jealous and secretive. We've got a decent amount of ground to cover, so let's get started!
bellyache by Billie Eilish (written by B. O'Connell, F. O'Connell)
This track from Eilish's 2017 EP dont smile at me is a great example of the resourceful, stubborn, secretive, and occasionally vengeful nature of the Scorpio. Eilish commented that this song is written from the point of a view of a fictional psychopath dealing with the guilt of having killed her friends, and her classic style of dark lyrics overtop a bright, bubbly pop chorus doesn't fail to disappoint here. I like this song a lot, it's a fun little bop with a good beat.
Sitting all alone, mouth full of gum in the driveway/My friends aren't far, in the back of my car lay their bodies/Where's my mind, where's my mind/They'll be here pretty soon, looking through my room for the money/Biting my nails, I'm too young to go to jail, it's kind of funny/Where's my mind, where's my mind/Where's my mind, where's my mind/Maybe it's in the gutter where I left my lover/What an expensive fate/My V is for vendetta, I thought that I'd feel better/But now I got a bellyache
Perfume by Britney Spears (written by B. Spears, C. Braide, S. Furler)
This track from Spears' 2013 album Britney Jean showcases Scorpio traits like devotion, distrust, and jealousy. It's definitely a darker toned song for Spears, but I like it quite a bit. Telling the story of a woman developing feelings of paranoia and jealousy that her boyfriend is cheating on her with his ex, it's a more melodic song than a lot of Spears' other songs, but it tells a good story and it's still a good time to listen to.
Do I imagine it, or do I see your stare, is there still longing there/Oh, I hate myself, and I feel crazy, such a classic tale/Current girlfriend, ex-girlfriend, I'm trying to be cool/I'm being paranoid, am I seeing things, am I just insecure/I want to believe it's just you and me/Sometimes, it feels like there's three of us in here, baby/So I, I wait for you to call and I try to act natural/Have you been thinking 'bout her or 'bout me/And while I wait, I put on my perfume, yeah, I want it all over you/I'm gonna mark my territory/I'll never tell, tell on myself, but I hope she smells my perfume/I'll never tell, tell on myself, but I hope she smells my perfume/I hide it well, hope you can tell, but I hope she smells my perfume/I hide it well, hope you can tell, but I hope she smells my perfume
Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen (written by C. Jepsen, J. Ramsay, T. Crowe)
One of the most iconic songs of the 2010s was featured on Scorpio musician Jepsen's 2012 album Kiss. I was in college when this song came out and still remember how bonkers bananas people went over it - you couldn't turn on a radio for like 8 months without it playing at least twice an hour. A few of Jepsen's Scorpio traits bleed through into the lyrics of the song, like her devotion, passion, resourcefulness, and stubbornness. This song is still an absolute blast to listen to, and I'm pretty sure no one will ever forget the words no matter how much time passes between listens.
I threw a wish in a well, don't ask me, I'll never tell/I looked to you as it fell, and now you're in my way/I'd trade my soul for a wish, pennies and dimes for a kiss/I wasn't looking for this, but now you're in my way/Your stare was holding, ripped jeans, skin was showing/Hot night wind was blowing, where you think you're going, baby/Hey, I just met you and this is crazy/But here's my number, so call me maybe/It's hard to look right at you, baby/But here's my number, so call me maybe/Hey, I just met you and this is crazy/But here's my number, so call me maybe/And all the other boys try to chase me/But here's my number, so call me maybe
Two Black Cadillacs by Carrie Underwood (written by C. Underwood, H. Lindsey, J. Kear)
I think this is my favorite Underwood song to date, featured on her 2012 album Blown Away. A classic revenge tale about a wife and mistress giving their man what's coming to him, Underwood covers classic Scorpio characteristics such as jealousy, distrust, intolerance, secrecy, passion, (debatably) bravery, and vengeance. Both the song and the music video are just SO good - the storytelling in the lyrics is awesome and the instrumentals backing them up are just as excellent.
Two black Cadillacs driving in a slow parade/Headlights shining bright in the middle of the day/One is for his wife, the other for the woman who loved him at night/Two black Cadillacs, meeting for the first time/And the preacher said, "He was a good man," and his brother said, "He was a good friend"/But the women in the two black veils didn't bother to cry/Yeah, they took turns laying a rose down, threw a handful of dirt into the deep ground/He's not the only one who had a secret to hide, bye bye, bye bye, bye bye
Novocaine by Fall Out Boy (written by A. Hurley, J. Trohman, P. Stump, P. Wentz)
While I never had a full on emo or scene kid phase, my little millennial heart loves Fall Out Boy. Featured on their 2015 album American Beauty/American Psycho, Novocaine shows such Scorpio traits as stubbornness, passion, and maybe not vengeance but definitely on the darker side. I hadn't heard this particular song until I was researching for this post but damn it's a bop, and it continues the theme of me liking every song I hear from American Beauty/American Psycho.
This is a black, black ski mask song/So put all of your anger on/In the truly gruesome, we do trust/I will always land on you like a sucker punch/Singing, "I am your worst, I am your worst nightmare"/I am your worst, I am your worst nightmare/If you knew, knew what the bluebirds sing at you/You would never sing along/Cast them out, 'cause this is our culture/These new flocks are nothing but vultures/Because they took our love and they filled it up/Filled it up with novocaine and now I'm just numb/And now I'm just numb/Don't mind me, I'm just a son of a gun/So don't stop, don't stop 'til your heart goes numb/And now I'm just numb/I don't feel a thing for you
There's Something About That Name by Gaither Vocal Band (written by G. Gaither, W. Gaither)
Our first personal Scorpio pick is from my sweet, beautiful, talented friend Tirzah:
"A worship song that I have cherished throughout my life has been There's Something About That Name. My first memory of knowing this song was when I was a little girl. I was sick and my mom was holding me and she was singing that song. My mom tells me that I would keep asking her to sing it saying, 'Mom, sing Master.' I researched this song last year and it was written by Bill and Gloria Gaither when they were going through a difficult time with one of their babies being sick and they didn't know what else to do other than pray and worship. I think I just keep coming back to this song and singing it because I love singing the name of Jesus, how sweet His name is, and how the other things in life will fade away but He remains."
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus/There's just something about that name/Master, Savior, Jesus/Like the fragrance after the rain/Jesus, Jesus, Jesus/Let all Heaven and earth proclaim/Kings and kingdoms will all pass away/But there's something about that name/Kings and kingdoms will all pass away/But there's something about that name
The Other Side by Hugh Jackman & Zac Efron (written by B. Pasek, J. Paul)
In 2017, The Greatest Showman gave us the duet we never knew we needed but now can't live without - Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron. Seriously, this song slaps. The two of them, as characters P.T. Barnum and Phillip Carlyle, show Scorpio traits like bravery, passion, and stubbornness throughout the lyrical conversation, as well as seriously awesome vocal and dance skills.
Right here, right now, I put the offer out/I don't want to chase you down, I know you see it/You run with me, and I can cut you free/Out of the treachery and walls you keep in/So trade that typical for something colorful/And if it's crazy, live a little crazy/You can play it sensible, a king of conventional/Or you can risk it all and see/Don't you wanna get away from the same old part you gotta play/'Cause I got what you need, so come with me and take a ride, it'll take you to the other side/'Cause you can do like you do or you can do like me, stay in the cage or you'll finally take the key/Oh damn, suddenly you're free to fly, it'll take you to the other side
Let It Go by Idina Menzel (written by R. Lopez, K. Anderson-Lopez)
I love Frozen. I love Elsa. I love Idina Menzel. Even if I didn't, I would think Elsa is a good representation of Scorpios on behalf of the Disney princesses. Elsa shows bravery when she finally comes into her own powers over the two Frozen movies, she's fiercely devoted to her sister, she's passionate about ruling her kingdom, she's resourceful and creative with her powers, and she's stubborn as all get out in sharing her problems with others who can help her. Yes, I was a senior in college when Frozen premiered in theaters, but seeing a good representation of someone else who was dealing with depression and anxiety was really awesome.
The snow glows white on the mountain tonight, not a footprint to be seen/A kingdom of isolation, and it looks like I'm the queen/The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside/Couldn't keep it in, heaven knows I tried/Don't let them in, don't let them see, be the good girl you always have to be/Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know/Well, now they know/Let it go, let it go, can't hold it back anymore/Let it go, let it go, turn away and slam the door/I don't care what they're going to say/Let the storm rage on, the cold never bothered me anyway
No Good Deed by Idina Menzel (written by S. Schwartz)
My little singer heart is so happy that my vocal hero is featured twice on this playlist. This intense second act solo from the 2003 musical Wicked is all over the place in terms of Scorpio traits. Elphaba shows passion and devotion to her loved ones that she feels she has let down, as well as distrust of the system she's fighting against for a really quite heartbreaking scene that showcases Menzel's vocal range spectacularly.
Eleka nahmen, nahmen, ah tum, ah tum, eleka nahmen/Eleka nahmen, nahmen, ah tum, ah tum, eleka nahmen/Let his flesh not be torn, let his blood leave no stain, when they beat him, let him feel no pain/Let his bones never break, and however they try to destroy him, let him never die, let him never die/Eleka nahmen, nahmen, ah tum, ah tum, eleka nahmen/Eleka nahmen, nahmen, ah tum, ah, tum, eleka, elekah, ugh/What good is this chanting, I don't even know what I'm reading, I don't even know what trick I ought to try/Fiyero, where are you, already dead or bleeding, one more disaster I can add to my generous supply/No good deed goes unpunished, no act of charity goes unresented/No good deed goes unpunished, that's my new creed/My road of good intentions led where such roads always lead/No good deed goes unpunished
Thunder by Imagine Dragons (written by A. Grant, B. McKee, D. Reynolds, D. Platzman, J. Dezuzio, W. Sermon)
There seems to be a Nickelback like split for people who do and do not like Imagine Dragons, but I am definitely on the side of liking them. Featured on their 2017 album Evolve, this song is a total banger and the first one I learned to play on the ukulele because why wouldn't that fact be relevant? The lyrics paint a picture of a devoted, passionate, somewhat stubborn narrator who's determined to make it big and ends up succeeding, all of which as covered above are prime Scorpio traits. I know this song got hella overplayed in 2017-2018, but the lyrics are inspirational, the beat rocks, and I still love it so sorry not sorry.
Just a young gun with a quick fuse, I was uptight, wanna let loose/I was dreaming of bigger things and wanna leave my old life behind/Not a "Yes Sir," not a follower, fit the box, fit the mould/Have a seat in the foyer, take a number, I was lightning before the thunder/Thunder, feel the thunder/Lightning, then the thunder/Thunder, feel the thunder/Lightning, then the thunder/Thunder, thunder/Thunder
BB Good by Jonas Brothers (written by J. Jonas, J. Taylor, K. Jonas, N. Jonas)
The JoBros come in on this count with the first track off of their 2008 album A Little Bit Longer. They definitely have some passionate, resourceful, and stubborn tones in the lyrics in a typical Scorpio fashion (oldest brother Kevin is a Scorpio himself), and the upbeat tempo and bubbly instrumentals set the tone for what I still firmly believe to be the brothers' best album.
I'll pick you up at 7, we can drive around and see a movie/Every scene will have a meaning, but you'll be the one that moves me/And I've been hurt before, so baby, promise that you're gonna be true/You gotta be, be good so tell me that you're gonna be good, too, yeah/You gotta be, be good to me/I'm gonna be, be good to you/We'll be happy as can be/Just gotta be, be good to me, baby
Love Is a Wild Thing by Kacey Musgraves (written by D. Tashian, I. Fitchuk, K. Musgraves)
While this song isn't necessarily a standout on Musgraves' 2018 album Golden Hour, it's still good. She shows Scorpio-like devotion and passion through the lyrics, and the dreamy musical style that imbues the entire Golden Hour album makes it a pretty chill listen.
You can't find it sitting on a shelf in a store/If you try to hide it, it's gonna shine even more/Even if you lose it, it will find you/There's no way to stop it, but they'll try to/Running like a river, trying to find the ocean, flowers in the concrete/Climbing over fences, blooming in the shadows, places that you can't see/Coming through the melody when the night bird sings/Love is a wild thing, yeah
Blue Ain't Your Color by Keith Urban (written by C. Lagerberg, H. Lindsey, S. Olsen)
The country heartthrob from Down Under is another Scorpio musician, and this single from his 2016 album Ripcord has become one of my favorites of his. His Scorpio traits of passion, resourcefulness, and a hint of stubbornness show up in the lyrics, and overall help make for a really great single. It's a great slow dance song for sure, and Urban is just so talented at everything from vocals to guitar that it's hard not to enjoy his music.
I can see you over there, staring at your drink, watching that ice sink all alone tonight/And chances are you're sitting here in this bar 'cause he ain't gonna treat you right/Well, it's probably not my place, but I'm gonna say it anyway, 'cause you look like/You haven't felt the fire, had a little fun, hadn't had a smile in a little while, baby/Blue looks good on the sky/Looks good on that neon buzzing on the wall, but darling, it don't match your eyes/I'm telling you, you don't need that guy/It's so black and white, he's stealing your thunder, baby, blue ain't your color
Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You) by Kelly Clarkson (written by A. Tamposi, D. Samson, G. Kurstin, J. Elofsson)
This banger of an inspirational anthem was featured on Clarkson's 2011 album Stronger and is known to be one of her biggest hits. Lots of positive Scorpio traits are shown in the lyrics: bravery, devotion, passion, resourcefulness, and stubbornness just to name a few. The best thing about this song is that it relates to all people everywhere with the universal message of being strong without the aid of someone you're better off without.
You know, the bed feels warmer sleeping here alone/You know I dream in color and do the things I want/You think you got the best of me, think you got the last laugh, bet you think that everything good is gone/Think you left me broken down, think that I'd come running back, baby, you don't know me 'cause you're dead wrong/What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, stand a little taller, doesn't mean I'm lonely when I'm alone/What doesn't kill you makes a fighter, footsteps even lighter, doesn't mean I'm over 'cause you're gone/What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, stronger, just me, myself and I/What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, stand a little taller, doesn't mean I'm lonely when I'm alone
Marry the Night by Lady Gaga (written by F. Garibay, S. Germanotta)
Track 1 from Gaga's 2011 album Born This Way isn't necessarily one of my favorites, but it's not my least favorite either - more of a middle of the pack, background song for me. It is high energy and fun for sure, and shows off some Scorpio characteristics like bravery and passion. It's a fun little pick me up anthem kind of like Clarkson's Stronger that's good to listen to to hype yourself up.
I'm gonna marry the night, I won't give up on my life/I'm a warrior queen, live passionately tonight/I'm gonna marry the dark, gonna make love to the stars/I'm a soldier to my own emptiness, I'm a winner/I'm gonna marry the night, I'm gonna marry the night/I'm gonna marry the night/I'm gonna marry the night, I'm not gonna cry anymore/I'm gonna marry the night, leave nothing on these streets to explore/Ma-ma-ma-marry, ma-ma-ma-marry/Ma-ma-ma-marry the night/Oh, ma-ma-marry, ma-ma-ma-marry/Ma-ma-ma-marry the night
Bluebird by Miranda Lambert (written by L. Dick, M. Lambert, N. Hemby)
Scorpio country music queen Lambert came out swinging on her 2019 album Wildcard, and this song is a good example of that. Another self-love type anthem on this list, Lambert shows off a few of her Scorpio traits like bravery, passion, and resourcefulness. I talked about this song a little bit on my Favorites of 2019 post, and I still like it a lot - it's a calmer type of anthem than Marry the Night or Stronger, but it's still a good one to cheer yourself up when you're down.
Well, I'm a giver, yeah, and I'm still giving 'em hell/Forgiving's pretty hard, so I made an art out of forgetting them well/Yeah, I'm a rhymer, I can turn 20 cents into a 10/And if I get confused and I start to lose, I rhyme the dime 'til it all makes sense/And if the house just keeps on winning, I got a wild card up my sleeve/And if love keeps giving me lemons, I just mix 'em in my drink/And if the whole wide world stops singing and all the stars go dark/Turn the light on in my soul and keep the bluebird in my heart
Fire Rides by MØ (written by K. Ørsted, R. Vindahl)
This was a new find by me for this post and I really dug it. Featured on Danish electro pop artist MØ's 2014 album No Mythologies to Follow, she hints at themes of jealousy and passion throughout the lyrics. This song is really chill to listen to - I like MØ's vocal style a lot, and they layer some cool effects on top of her voice as well to add to the atmosphere.
Pure, sweet, violent hearts/Believes the signs we see in the cards/Believes the signs we read in our dreams/But we seem to follow the stream/What's it gonna be with the violence/What's it gonna be with the fire rides/And what's it gonna be like when the sound of you and I die out/What am I to do in my room, oh God, the wall's turning yellow/What am I to do in the city if I can't have it all and I just wanna feel pity/For my own doomed soul, doomed as the source/Where can I find peace in the city as I found in the eyes of yours/As I found in the eyes of yours/In too deep, give up and run/No fire rides, oh bitch, you've got it wrong/In too deep, I have become/My darkest dream of which I'm running from
Stupid Hoe by Nicki Minaj (written by O. Maraj, T. Dunham)
This song is so ridiculously goofy and stupid that I really can't help but love it. Featured on her 2012 album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, Minaj passionately attacks her female haters (most notably Lil' Kim) with Scorpio themes of distrust and intolerance. Again, this song is corny af, but it does show off Minaj's lyric writing abilities in the verses with all of her clap backs and it's a good song to work out to thanks to the upbeat tempo as well as a good song to blow off steam to if you're in a bad mood.
I get it cracking like a bad back/Bitch talking she the queen when she looking like a lab rat/I'm Angelina, you Jennifer/Come on, bitch, you see where Brad at/Ice my wristes, then I piss on bitches/You could suck my diznick if you take these jizzes/You don't like them dishes, give my ass some kisses/Yeah, they know what this is, give bitches the business/'Cause I pull up and I'm stunting, but I ain't a stuntman/Yes, I'm rocking Jordans, but I ain't a jumpman/Bitches play the back 'cause they know I'm the frontman/Put me on a dollar 'cause I'm who they trust in/Ayo, SB, what the fuck's good/We ship platinum, them bitches is shipping wood/Them nappy headed hoes, but my kitchen good/I wish, I wish, I wish, I wish, I wish a bitch would/You a stupid hoe, you a, you a stupid hoe/You a stupid hoe, you a, you a stupid hoe/You a stupid hoe, you a, you a stupid hoe/You a stupid hoe, yeah, you a, you a stupid hoe/You a stupid hoe, you a, you a stupid hoe/You a stupid hoe, you a, you a stupid hoe/You a stupid hoe, you a, you a stupid hoe/You a stupid hoe, yeah, you a, you a stupid hoe
Roaring 20s by Panic! At the Disco (written by B. Freedlander, B. Urie, G. Lindsay, J. Sinclair, J. Youngs, K. Harris, M. Ferguson, S. Hollander, S. Jones, T. Wincorn)
If Brendan Urie could just sing every song ever, that would be awesome because I could listen to him all day long. Featured on Panic's 2018 album Pray for the Wicked, Urie sings about passion and a little bit of stubbornness with coming to terms with this decade of his life in true Scorpio fashion. This song is a lot of fun to listen to - the swing style feel to the song matches perfectly with the play on words in the title referring to the 1920s. It also sums up what a lot of 20 somethings feel like multiple times in that decade of life - some people our age have it all together and some feel like they're falling apart, but everyone's doing their own thing.
Broadway is black like a sinkhole/Everyone raced to the suburbs/And I'm on the rooftop with curious strangers/This is the oddest of summers/Maybe I'll medicate, may be inebriate/Strange situations, I get anxious/Maybe I'll smile a bit, maybe the opposite/But pray that they don't call me thankless/My tell-tale heart's a-hammering in my chest/Cut me a silk tie tourniquet/This is my roaring, roaring 20s, I don't even know me/Roll me like a blunt, 'cause I wanna go home/Roll me like a blunt, 'cause I wanna go home/My roaring, roaring 20s, I don't even know me/Roll me like a blunt, 'cause I wanna go home/Roll me like a blunt, 'cause I want, I wanna go home
Better Now by Post Malone (written by A. Feeney, A. Post, B. Walsh, L. Bell)
One of Posty's more serious songs, Better Now is featured on his 2018 album beerbongs & bentleys. Exploring the relationship between a couple who has split up and are trying to move on from each other, the lyrics explore themes of Scorpio traits such as devotion, stubbornness, and jealousy. This song got a bit overplayed on the radio when it was released as a single, but it's still one of my favorites from this album. I love the story the lyrics tells and when it gets stuck in my head as it does every once in a while, it's not one that I necessarily mind.
I did not believe that it would end, no/Everything came second to the Benzo/You're not even speaking to my friends, no/You know all my uncles and my aunts, though/Twenty candles, blow 'em out and open your eyes/We were looking forward to the rest of our lives/Used to keep my picture posted by your bedside/Now it's in your dresser with the socks you don't like/And I'm rolling, rolling, rolling, rolling/With my brothers like it's Jonas, Jonas/Drinking Henney and I'm tryna forget/But I can't get this shit out of my head/You prolly think that you are better now, better now/You only say that 'cause I'm not around, not around/You know I never meant to let you down, let you down/Woulda gave you anything, woulda gave you everything/You know I say that I am better now, better now/I only say that 'cause you're not around, not around/You know I never meant to let you down, let you down/Woulda gave you anything, woulda gave you everything, whoa
What Hurts the Most by Rascal Flatts (written by J. Steele, S. Robson)
Yes, I'm a Scorpio, so I'M the other personal pick for this post. I thought for days and days about what my favorite song really is because I go through cycles of listening to things, have analysis paralysis, and just in general love a lot of different songs. This particular one, however, I have been able to consistently say is one of my top 5 favorite songs of all time since I was in middle school. It was the first song and music video to make me cry (cue "I'm 14 and this is deep"), I love the melody, and it cemented Rascal Flatts as my favorite band for several years. Me & My Gang became one of my favorite albums of all time due to this song as well. A lot of people have asked me over the years WHY this is my favorite song because it's so sad, but I think that's part of what makes it so beautiful - the emotion in both the instrumental music and the lyrics is so raw and real that the pain felt throughout can be applied to any sort of grief, not just the split up of a romantic couple.
I can take the rain on the roof of this empty house, that don't bother me/I can take a few tears now and then, just let 'em out/I'm not afraid to cry every once in a while/Even though going on with you gone still upsets me/There are days every now and again I pretend I'm okay/But that's not what gets me/What hurts the most was being so close/And having so much to say and watching you walk away/And never knowing what could've been/And not seeing that loving you is what I was trying to do
Better Than Revenge by Taylor Swift (written by T. Swift)
This is my absolute favorite song from Swift's 2010 album Speak Now because it's just so damn fun. I talked about it a bit on my Taylor Swift post, but this classic revenge tale about a girl who's had her man stolen from her by another woman explores themes of passion, stubbornness, distrust, jealousy, and vengeance. Like I mentioned before, this song got me through a rough situation with someone while I was in college, and it's still a good song to blow off steam to when I'm really mad but don't want to do or say anything drastic out loud.
She looks at life like it's a party and she's on the list/She looks at me like I'm a trend and she's so over it/I think her ever present frown is a little troubling/And she thinks I'm psycho 'cause I like to rhyme her name with things/But sophistication isn't what you wear or who you know/Or pushing people down to get you where you wanna go/They didn't teach you that in prep school, so it's up to me/That no amount of vintage dresses gives you dignity/She's not a saint and she's not what you think, she's an actress, whoa/And she's better known for the things that she does on a mattress, whoa/Soon, she's gonna find stealing other peoples' toys on the playground won't make you many friends/She should keep in mind, she should keep in mind, there is nothing I do better than revenge
Zombie by The Cranberries (written by D. O'Riordan)
I had no idea of any of the backstory on this classic from Irish rock band The Cranberries until I started researching for this post. Featured on their 1994 album No Need to Argue, the song was written by late Cranberries frontwoman Dolores O'Riordan in regards to the Warrington Bombings of 1993 that were carried out by the IRA, particularly in memory of victims Jonathan Ball (age 3) and Tim Parry (age 12). O'Riordan commented that the lyrics are inspired by her protest of the IRA, and that despite being Irish herself she did not agree with the violence that was being inflicted on the British at the time. I think O'Riordan showed classic Scorpio bravery in writing the song, as well as showcasing themes of passion and intolerance towards the violence itself in the lyrics. Knowing the story behind it now, it's changed my listening experience of the song completely, which I think as a whole is for the better.
Another head hangs lowly, child is slowly taken/And the violence causes silence, who are we mistaking/But you see, it's not me, it's not my family/In your head, in your head, they are fighting/With their tanks and their bombs, and their bombs and their guns/In your head, in your head, they are crying/In your head, in your head/Zombie, zombie, zombie/What's in your head, in your head/Zombie, zombie, zombie
Happy early Scorpio season, fellow scorpions! As per usual, whether you subscribe to astrology or not (like me), I hope you found some good new music to listen to in this post. Happy listening, and see ya'll next week!
