Heaven (noun) - the dwelling place of the Deity and the blessed dead; a spiritual state of everlasting communion with God

Synonyms: Kingdom Come, Paradise

Antonyms: Hell, Purgatory

What better ending goal could we as Christians have than spending eternity in Heaven with our Lord and Savior? Heaven is thrown around a lot in culture as a sort of utopia where you get to go if you're a "good person," where everything you've ever wanted is at your fingertips. Followers of Christ know it goes a bit deeper than that. Heaven is the seat of God's throne, and through our salvation in Jesus, we will be able to dwell there with Him forever when our earthly bodies expire. There is no pain, no sadness, no evil, and no sin.

This week's post includes seven songs that discuss Heaven along with Scripture references that inspired them and that I was led to with each entry. All Scripture passages are from the New Living Translation of the Holy Bible.

Revelation Song by Christ for the Nations Music (written by J. Riddle)

Featured on CFTN's 2004 album Glorious and featuring vocals from a young Kari Jobe, this is still one of my all time favorite worship songs. With lyrics straight out of the books of Isaiah and Revelation, this is just a small peek into what worship in Heaven will be like. Holy is the Lord, indeed.

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain/Holy, holy is He/Sing a new song to Him who sits on/Heaven’s mercy seat/Worthy is the Lamb who was slain/Holy, holy is He/Sing a new song to Him who sits on/Heaven’s mercy seat/Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty/Who was and is and is to come/With all creation, I sing praise to the King of kings/You are my everything, and I will adore You

Isaiah 6:3 They were calling out to each other, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Heaven’s Armies! The whole earth is filled with his glory!”

Heaven Roars (Live) by Citipointe Worship & Aaron Lucas (written by A. Lucas, B. Lamshed)

Featured on Citipointe's 2018 live album Mover Of Mountains with vocals from worship leader Aaron Lucas, this is a great song describing how Heaven declares day and night the majesty of our God. He is all powerful, Almighty, all knowing, and He created us and loves us more than we can comprehend. He is infinitely glorious, and eternally worthy of our praise.

The Light invading, hope displayed through Your love/The constellations ever praising all You are/With a thunder of praise, the heavens shout Your name/Lifting high a banner and our strength/All of Heaven roars, "Holy is the Lord/God Almighty"/On the mass, we sing, "Our God reigns supreme/King of glory, yeah"

Psalm 96:11 Let the heavens be glad, and the earth rejoice! Let the sea and everything in it shout his praise!

There Is A King (Live) by Elevation Worship (written by S. Furtick, T. Hammer, B. Lake)

Featured on Elevation's 2020 live album Graves Into Gardens and featuring vocals from worship leader Chris Brown, this is a soft, sweet, powerful moment of worship to the King of Heaven. It's a beautiful statement of who Jesus is and why He is deserving of our praise. Just imagine singing this alongside the heavenly chorus.

There is a King seated among us/Let every heart receive Him now/Where there is praise, He will inhabit/There will be grace and mercy all around/Every burden will be lifted in His presence/Every trophy will be laid down at His feet/There is a name that reigns above all others/Jesus Christ, the King above all kings

Psalm 73:25 Whom have I in heaven but you? I desire you more than anything on earth.

Touch the Sky by Hillsong UNITED & TAYA (written by M. Chislett, J. Houston, D. Thomas)

Featured on UNITED's 2016 album Empires with vocals from worship leader Taya Gaukrodger, this beautiful song is a soaring declaration of how it feels to surrender to the Holy Spirit. We as God's children are blessed to have a direct line to Heaven through Jesus Christ, who we communicate with through prayer. Prayer and surrender are so freeing to our souls.

What fortune lies beyond the stars/Those dazzling heights too vast to climb/I got so high to fall so far/But I found Heaven as love swept low/My heart beating, my soul breathing/I found my life when I laid it down/Upward falling, spirit soaring/I touch the sky when my knees hit the ground

Matthew 4:17 From then on Jesus began to preach, “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.”

Voice Memo (Heaven on Earth) by Mosaic MSC (written by M. McManus, C. Pimentel, A. Figueroa, B. Odom)

Featured on Mosaic's 2018 EP Heaven, this moment of worship has a raw, spontaneous feel to it. The Bible says Heaven will be full of moments like this, constant genuine worship to the King of kings. I can't think of a better way to spend eternity.

You are all around me/You are all around me/You are all around me/You are all around me/You are my protector/You are my protector/You are my protector/You are my protector/You have always seen me/You have always seen me/You have always seen me/Whoa, You have always seen me/With heart and with soul/With every breath/You compose a symphony/Where beautiful hope believes in me

Philippians 3:20 But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior.

God of Wonders by Third Day (written by S. Hindalong, M. Byrd)

Featured on Third Day's 2003 album Offerings II: All I Have to Give, this classic throwback paints a beautiful picture of how mighty our God truly is. God created everything we could ever know, from the farthest star to the deepest ocean, but we are the only things created in His image. How special we must be to Him that He love us as much as He does.

Lord of all creation/Lord of water, earth, and sky/The heavens are Your tabernacle/Glory to the Lord on high/God of wonders beyond our galaxy/You are holy, holy/The universe declares Your majesty/You are holy, holy/Lord of heaven and earth/Lord of heaven and earth

Acts 17:24 He is the God who made the world and everything in it. Since he is Lord of heaven and earth, he doesn’t live in man-made temples…

Child Of Love by We The Kingdom (written by E. Cash, S. Cash, F. Cash, M. Cash, A. Bergthold)

Featured on We The Kingdom's 2020 album Holy Water, this is a certified banger full of joy and praise for what Jesus has done for us. Our Lord never changes, and in a world where change is inevitable and oftentimes scary, that is such a relief. It's enough to make us want to jump and sing for joy.

I was walking the wayside, lost on a lonely road/I was chasing the high life, tryna satisfy my soul/All the lies I believed in left me crying like the rain/Then I saw lightning from Heaven, and I’ve never been the same/I’m gonna climb a mountain, I’m gonna shout about it/I am a child of love/I found a world of freedom, I found a friend in Jesus/I am a child of love

John 1:12 But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.

I hope these songs have blessed you today the way they've blessed me. Happy listening, and see ya'll next week!
